12 Days Until Spain: Another Major Milestone Complete

Today marked another important milestone in our journey, and it feels good to say that we are officially down to 12 days until we leave for Spain. Every morning I wake up and check the calendar, and every morning it becomes a little more real. For years, this move has been something we talked about, researched, and carefully planned. Now, with only 12 days remaining, it feels like everything we’ve been working toward is finally coming together.

One thing I’ve learned throughout this process is that an international move isn’t made up of one big event. Instead, it’s hundreds of small tasks that all have to come together at exactly the right time. Looking at our checklist today reminded me just how much we’ve already accomplished. There is still work to do during these final 12 days, but the list is getting shorter, and that is an incredibly satisfying feeling.

A Five-Hour Drive for Thirty Minutes

Today’s mission was all about our visa paperwork. One of the requirements for our Spain visa is providing officially verified bank statements. Because we don’t have a local branch for our bank, that meant making a two-and-a-half-hour drive each way to Maryland just to have our April, May, and June bank statements stamped and verified.

When you’re only 12 days away from an international move, you start looking at your time differently. Spending five hours in the car for what seemed like a simple task wasn’t exactly how I pictured spending the day, but we knew it had to be done. Thankfully, everything went exactly as planned.

The employees at the bank were incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in. They understood exactly what we needed, reviewed all three months of statements, officially verified them, and had everything completed in less than thirty minutes. After weeks of paperwork, appointments, and unexpected surprises, it was refreshing to have something go smoothly from start to finish.

One More Item Checked Off

As soon as we made it back home, I didn’t waste any time. I immediately scanned every verified document and emailed everything over to our attorney so the statements could be included with our visa application.

There was something incredibly satisfying about clicking that send button. During these final 12 days, every completed task feels like another weight being lifted off our shoulders. Instead of worrying about one more requirement, we can officially cross it off the list and focus on what’s next.

I’m realizing that there is a lot of peace that comes from simply making progress. Even though we still have things to accomplish during these 12 days, every finished task reminds me that we’re getting closer to our goal.

It’s the Small Details That Matter

If there’s one thing this move has taught me, it’s that the smallest details often end up being the most important. Before we started this journey, I knew there would be paperwork involved, but I never imagined just how many documents, signatures, appointments, and requirements there would be along the way.

During these final 12 days, it seems like every completed task reveals another small detail that needs attention. Fortunately, those details don’t feel overwhelming anymore. They simply feel like part of the process. Every appointment we’ve attended, every form we’ve filled out, and every phone call we’ve made has brought us one step closer to boarding that plane.

Looking back, it’s amazing how much we’ve accomplished over the past several months. Selling our home, downsizing thirteen years of belongings, arranging transportation for Bane, booking flights, organizing shipping, and now completing another major piece of our visa paperwork all seemed impossible when we first started. Now they’re simply chapters in the story of how we got here.

Watching Everything Come Together

One of the best feelings today was realizing how much our perspective has changed. Earlier this year, Spain felt so far away that it almost seemed impossible. We were making plans without knowing exactly how everything would work out. Now, with only 12 days remaining, we’re no longer imagining our future—we’re preparing to live it.

There is still plenty to do over these next 12 days, but the difference is that the finish line is finally visible. We’re no longer wondering if we’ll make it. Instead, we’re making final preparations for a journey we’ve dreamed about for years.

I know these 12 days are going to pass quickly. There will be more packing, more errands, more paperwork, and probably a few unexpected surprises along the way. Even so, I’m trying to enjoy these final moments here. They represent the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another, and I don’t want to rush through them just because I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Twelve Days Until a New Beginning

As I sit here tonight thinking about everything we accomplished today, I can’t help but smile. We drove five hours for thirty minutes at the bank, and somehow it was completely worth it. That’s what this move has become. We’re willing to do whatever it takes because we know what waits for us on the other side.

With only 12 days left, Spain doesn’t feel like a distant dream anymore. It feels close enough to touch. Every completed task, every stamped document, and every mile we’ve driven has brought us to this point.

The countdown continues, and while these final 12 days will undoubtedly be busy, I know they’ll also be memorable. Before long, we’ll be writing these updates from our new home instead of writing about the journey to get there.
