A Much Needed Break Before Spain
After months of nonstop activity, we finally decided to do something that has been missing from our lives for quite a while.
Nothing related to moving.
At least for one day.
The last several months have been filled with paperwork, packing, selling furniture, shipping pallets, cleaning, appointments, and more stress than I care to admit. Every day has seemed to revolve around a checklist. As soon as one task was completed, another one immediately took its place.
That is why today felt so different.
Instead of focusing on moving to Spain, we decided to spend the day getting out of the house and enjoying ourselves for a change. No boxes. No paperwork. No deadlines. Just a chance to relax and recharge before the next phase of this adventure begins.
Honestly, I think we needed it more than we realized.
Visiting the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple
Our first stop was the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in New Jersey.
I had seen pictures before, but they really do not prepare you for seeing it in person. The craftsmanship, architecture, and attention to detail are incredible. Everywhere you look, there is something beautiful to admire.
What struck me most was the peaceful atmosphere. After months of rushing from one task to the next, it was refreshing to spend time somewhere that naturally encourages you to slow down and appreciate the moment.
The temple was absolutely stunning, but it was also calming in a way that is difficult to describe.
As we walked through the grounds, I found myself thinking less about all the things we still need to do and more about how far we have already come. Sometimes when you are focused on a major goal, it is easy to overlook the progress you have made.
Moving to Spain has consumed much of our attention for a long time, but today reminded me that it is important to enjoy the journey as well.
Exploring American Dream
After visiting the temple, we headed over to the American Dream mall.
If you have never been there, it is hard to explain just how massive it is. Calling it a mall almost feels like an understatement. It is more like an entertainment complex with shopping attached to it.
We spent time walking around, browsing stores, and simply enjoying ourselves without feeling rushed. There was no agenda beyond having fun and spending time together.
That alone felt like a luxury.
For months, nearly every outing has had a purpose connected to moving to Spain. We were either gathering documents, buying supplies, attending appointments, or checking another task off our list.
Today was different.
Today was simply about being together as a family and enjoying a break from reality for a few hours.
The Importance of Taking a Break
One thing I have learned throughout this process is that major life changes can easily become all-consuming.
When you are preparing for something as significant as moving to Spain, it is tempting to focus on it every waking moment. There is always another task to complete or another detail to research.
But eventually, your mind and body need a break.
I think we reached that point.
Over the last six months, we have sold a house, packed up nearly everything we own, completed endless paperwork, arranged international shipping, and prepared for an entirely new life in another country.
That is a lot.
Today gave us permission to step away from the stress for a little while and simply enjoy being together.
Bane’s Big Appointment
Of course, the break is only temporary.
Tomorrow we are right back to handling move-related responsibilities.
One of our biggest priorities is taking Bane to his veterinary appointment for his USDA health certificate examination.
Anyone who has moved internationally with pets knows that there is far more involved than simply booking a flight. There are forms, regulations, health requirements, timelines, and documentation that must all be completed correctly.
The health certificate is one of the final major steps in preparing Bane for the move.
As excited as we are about moving to Spain, one of the most important things for us has always been making sure Bane gets there safely and comfortably as well.
He may not fully understand what is happening, but he has certainly noticed the changes around him over the last few months.
The disappearing furniture.
The endless boxes.
The constant activity.
Soon enough, he will be starting this adventure right alongside us.
Less Than Thirty Days to Go
The thought that keeps popping into my head lately is how close we are.
We are officially less than thirty days away from our move.
Thirty days.
That number seems impossible.
For years, Spain was something we talked about. Then it became something we planned. Then it became something we worked toward.
Now it is almost here.
Moving to Spain no longer feels like a distant dream. It feels real.
There are still challenges ahead. There will undoubtedly be stressful moments between now and departure day. There are still appointments to attend, paperwork to complete, and final details to organize.
But the finish line is finally visible.
Enjoying the Journey
Today reminded me of something important.
This move is not just about reaching Spain.
It is also about the experiences we have along the way.
The memories we create.
The places we visit.
The people we spend time with.
The moments when we stop worrying about tomorrow and simply enjoy today.
After such an exhausting six months, this relaxation day was exactly what we needed.
Tomorrow it is back to appointments, pet paperwork, and preparing for departure. But today was about slowing down, appreciating where we are, and taking a moment to breathe.
And honestly, that may have been the most productive thing we could have done.
