The Exciting Final Stretch: Packing Up the House and Getting Ready to Go
As we get closer to our move, things are starting to feel very real. For months, we have been planning, researching, organizing, and talking about what comes next. Now, we are in the middle of the final push, and it seems like every day brings another box packed, another item sold, and another room emptied.
Right now, our main focus is packing up the house. It has become our daily routine. Every room we walk through looks different than it did just a few weeks ago. Shelves that were once full are now bare. Closets are becoming empty. Decorations that have been part of our home for years are carefully wrapped away or finding new homes with someone else.
A Yard Sale Success Story
One of the biggest milestones recently was our yard sale. We spent weeks preparing for it, sorting through items, pricing everything, and organizing the setup. Like many things during this moving process, there was a little uncertainty. We hoped people would show up, but you never really know how a yard sale will go until the first customer arrives.
Thankfully, the yard sale exceeded our expectations.
Over the course of two days, we made nearly $1,000 selling items that we no longer needed. That amount was far more than we expected and helped us clear out a significant amount of belongings. More importantly, it allowed many of our items to find new homes instead of ending up in storage or sitting unused.
The success of the yard sale gave us a huge boost of motivation. Sometimes, packing up the house can feel overwhelming because there always seems to be more work waiting around the corner. Seeing so much leave the house over one weekend reminded us that progress is happening, even when it feels slow.
Letting Go of More Than Just Stuff
One thing that surprised me was how emotional some of the items were. Certain things had been with us for years. Some were tied to family memories, special occasions, or different stages of our lives. While most of the items were easy to let go of, a few made us pause for a moment before deciding they were ready for a new owner.
That is one of the lessons I have learned during this process. Moving is not just about boxes and paperwork. It is also about deciding what truly matters. When you start packing up the house, you quickly realize how many possessions you have accumulated over time. Some things are incredibly important. Others are simply things we have carried from one place to another without much thought.
As the rooms become emptier, we find ourselves appreciating simplicity more than ever. There is something refreshing about having less. It creates space, both physically and mentally. Every item that leaves the house is one less thing to organize, move, or worry about later.
Finding a Home for the Remaining Items
Of course, not everything sold during the yard sale. We still have several items left over that need a new home. Rather than throwing them away, I am currently looking for a charity organization that can pick them up. Many of these items are still in excellent condition, and I would much rather see them help someone else than end up discarded.
Finding donation options is becoming the next step in our journey. After spending so much time sorting and selling, it feels good knowing that the remaining items may be useful to someone else. If you are preparing for a move yourself, it is worth looking into local organizations that offer pickup services.

The House Feels Different Now
Another thing I have noticed while packing up the house is how differently each family member approaches the process. Some people are eager to get rid of things immediately. Others need a little more time to decide. Neither approach is wrong. Moving forces everyone to evaluate their belongings in their own way.
The house itself feels dramatically different now. Rooms that once felt full of activity now echo slightly when you walk through them. Furniture has been moved. Decorations are gone. Storage spaces are mostly cleared out. Every empty corner serves as a reminder that a major life change is approaching.
Oddly enough, the emptier the house becomes, the more excited we get.
Turning Plans Into Reality
For a long time, the move existed mostly as a future plan. We talked about timelines, paperwork, logistics, and possibilities. Now, packing up the house has transformed those plans into reality. Every packed box is a visible sign that we are moving forward.
There are still plenty of tasks remaining. We have paperwork to finalize, items to donate, rooms to finish packing, and countless small details to manage. Anyone who has moved before understands that the final weeks often feel the busiest. Yet despite the long to-do list, there is also a growing sense of accomplishment.
Looking back, I think the hardest part was simply getting started. The thought of packing up the house seemed enormous at first. It felt like there were too many decisions to make and too many things to sort through. Once we began taking it one room at a time, the process became much more manageable.
Progress Over Perfection
One lesson this move has reinforced is the importance of focusing on progress rather than perfection. A single box packed is progress. One closet cleaned out is progress. One donation pickup scheduled is progress. Small steps eventually create significant results.
As we continue packing up the house, I find myself reflecting on the memories we have created here. Every home becomes part of your story. It witnesses celebrations, challenges, ordinary days, and unforgettable moments. Leaving does not erase those memories. It simply means a new chapter is about to begin.
Ready for What Comes Next
For now, our days are filled with tape, boxes, labels, and checklists. We continue packing up the house one section at a time. We continue finding places for the remaining items. We continue preparing ourselves mentally for what lies ahead.
The encouraging part is that we can finally see the finish line.
The successful yard sale, the nearly empty rooms, and the growing stack of packed boxes all point to the same thing: we are getting closer. The work of packing up the house is paying off. What once felt like a distant goal now feels just around the corner.
There is still work to do, but the house is definitely feeling much more empty, and we are ready to go. The next adventure is approaching quickly, and every day spent packing up the house brings us one step closer to it.
